Funny Cats vs Superstition picture

We all know that it’s bad luck if a black cat crosses your path. Or was it good? Black cat related stories are my favorite when it comes to cat superstition. From witches and black magic to the meaning of a black cat crossing your path you just can’t beat a good cat story. So where do these stories come from?

Since I was babysitting a black cat for over a year, I’m either the luckiest on unluckiest person in the world, depends on what you belive in. Max was the prettiest little green eyed hair ball I’ve seen in my life. I had this friend who believed in all these black cat stories. She would always come up with a very unbelievable reason not to come when Max was at my house. So one day I decided to prove, that a cat, no matter what is her color can’t affect your luck.

Yeah you guessed it, another research. The best explanation I’ve found about these stories was one about how early Christians wanted to rid society of all other religions. They’ve convinced the ignorant people that black cats are demons and should be destroyed as such. Of course the cat’s weren’t the only ones. Their owners were marked as witches. They believed that by being demons black cats can cut you off from God by crossing your path. All I can say is I pretty much agree with the quote below. Black cats are just cats.

“A black cat crossing your path signifies that the animal is going somewhere.” ~ Groucho Marx

I agree with you about black cats. During the course of my life, I have been owned by two very different ones. In high school it was Henry (should have been Henrietta) who would always be waiting for me when I came home. For the past 14 it was Demon who was the light of my life and has left a hole in my heart just his size. I have felt only blessed to have known these two wonderful animals.

Another black cat proverb for you: A white cat will bring its owner silver. A black cat will bring its owner gold.

(Of course, we know who really owns whom!)
